Female Prisoner #701 Scorpion

A Woman Betrayed and Imprisoned. A Mission of Vengeance.

Female Prisoner #701 Scorpion is a Japanese exploitation film that involves women in prison, punishment, and revenge. This was my first time diving into this particular exploitation sub genre and I came out a fan of the genre and a big fan of the main actress Meiko Kaji. The main story involves a woman who was betrayed by the man she loves and wrongly accused of a crime. She does all she can to escape the prison and get her revenge.

This film turned me into a Meiko Kaji fan. She does an amazing job with the character Nami Matsushim or
“Mastu the Scorpion”. She communicates  more with intense vengeful stares rather than words to create a serious kick ass character. The movie also has some decent action scenes, uncomfortable scenes of punishment, and some very nice visual moments. I will defiantly be checking out the sequels and other Meiko Kaji movies.

I wouldn’t call this a horror film, but it is a good 70’s exploitation flick that sprays the blood and has its fair share of brutal scenes. If you want to check this out there is a Tokyo Shock DVD that should be quite easy to find online.

Zombie / Amityville Horror Double Feature!

Last week I had the pleasure to enjoy two great classic horror films on the big screen. The Oaks Theater in Oakmont Pennsylvania showed ZOMBIE and Amityville Horror back to back as part of their Moonlit Matinee Film Festival in October.

First was Lucio Fulci's Zombie which was being played to celebrate the release of the movie on blu ray. It was a great experience to see such a movie on the big screen with a large popcorn. I snapped a few pics of the screen for fun.

The Amityville Horror was another good watch. It had been a while since I have watched it and it was great to see it on an original film. Unlike Zombie the film for Amityville was discolored and had a very cool old feel to it. Nice to see some classic films that way.

More cool stuff in October!!

October is always the best month of the year to find Horror movies. Here are a few other surprise goodies I found at a near by video store.

A great find. Tapes like this don't show up that often.

 Vestron!

This is an awesome Wizard Video "Robot Holocaust" the box is cut on one of the sides but  its in good shape. Best  looking wizard I own so far.

Black Christmas is one of my favorites. Couldn't pass this one up.

Great movie and could not pass up the artwork on this version.

Happy Halloween to all. Tis the season for scary movies!

Cool New Stuff! October

A very cool find the day after I went to Cinema Wasteland. I have been looking for one of these for a while and it was only 2.50. Thanks to my girlfriend Kim who was nice enough to buy it for me. (#11201/40000)
Halloween 10-31-76 Limited Edition VHS - Anchor Bay
Halloween is up there with one of my all time favorite movies and movie series so I was super excited to find one of these limited edition Halloween 10-31-76 VHS sets. This cool little package comes with the movie and another tape with bonus features on a great bright orange VHS tape. I love the look of this edition. The front shows a faint image of the mask of Michael Myers along with the famous date 10-31-76, "The Day He Came Home" This tape is #11,201 out of 40,000. I don't think this particular tape is that hard to track down but this is the first time I saw it and I have to thank my girlfriend because she bought it for me, and for only $2.50. Gotta love the deals!

This is a very cool and well put together box set that includes a lost 80’s gem called the basement and 4 other movies! The basement comes on DVD and a badass Red VHS tape as well. This is the first time (2011) that the basement has ever been release, VHS and DVD. Time and thought went into this release and it shows this is a very cool item to have in any movie collection and for a great price as well. Thank you Camp Motion Pictures horror fans like myself love releases like this.
The Basement Big Box VHS and DVD Box Set - Camp Video
This is a recently released box set that includes a long lost horror anthology film from the 80's called The Basement. Included is The Basement on a nice (but light) red VHS and DVD and also 4 other horror films. Hopefully I will be posting about this in more depth sometime soon. I plan To add it to my 2011 October Halloween Horror Marathon as well as some of the other movies included. Check this one out and support the independent releases, It should not be to hard to find I got mine at deep discount for a very decent price.

555 An old lost Horror SOV flick brought back to life by massacre video. This is the massacre video limited (to 50) 555 Vhs.
555 VHS Massacre Video
555 is a movie that has peaked my interest just recently and when I found out that a small independent video company named Massacre Video was going to make this their first release I had to get it. 555 is one of those long lost horror films that hit shelves in video stores back in the day and never got a proper DVD release (until now!) which made the movie a very sought after item. Massacre Video Released 555 on DVD, a Limted Edition DVD, and a Limited VHS (pictured) which I was lucky enough to snag during the pre order because there were only 50 made. Search for this movie on DVD and see what it is all about and allow releases like this to happen. Massacre Video has plans to release more lost films soon.

Texas Chainsaw Autograph - Gunnar Hanson

Every time I go to the Cinema Wasteland convention in Strongsville Ohio I try to get something autographed and I have been fortunate enough to meet many what I would call Horror Legends. This Year was the first time I got to meet Gunner Hanson AKA Leatherface. This has quickly become one of my favorite DVDs. I love the autograph right by the character.

Sleepaway Camp 2 Unhappy Campers

Sleepaway camp is a classic 80’s slasher with one of the most, if not THE MOST creepy and memorable ending of all time. There is no doubt that Sleepaway camp is on my long list of favorite horror list but for the longest time I could never find the sequels. Until now! I recently found a video store, that was sadly going out of business, with a very large horror section. Sadly I feel most of it was picked over but someone was nice enough to leave me with both Sleepaway Camp 2 and 3.

Pamela Springsteen sister of “The Boss”

Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers, takes place a number of years after the first movie. It has a lot of violence, more nudity, and the campers seem to be even closer to pushing 30 years old than in the first. This is a total cheeseball of a movie but i encourage anyone to watch it especially if they liked the first one.

One thing… probably the only thing that kept this movie alive were the DEATH SCENES. most of the acting and interactions between the campers makes me want to puke but the killing scenes I found to be quite impressive and very mean. Many people die in this movie so despite the horrid acting this movie still offers quite amount of entertainment. Especially the “Happy Camper Song”.

I Rate this flick a solid 3 out of 5 Dead Unhappy Campers. Cool death scenes, and fun to watch, but far from the great original Sleepaway camp.

The Grapes of Death

It has been a little while since my last post. School and important things have popped into my life again but nothing can stop my horror movie madness! so after a long day I sat down and enjoyed THE GRAPES OF DEATH! on DVD

This movie always intrigued me. The DVD has a bright pink cover, the back cover shows some scenes of intense gore, and The Grapes of Death is just a crazy (but fitting) name for a movie. I never really knew what it was all about until now.

Killer Grapes?

I would throw this movie into the Zombie genre. Films like Night of the Living Dead and Let Sleeping Corpses Lie were swimming through my head as I was watching but The Grapes of Death holds its own in being an original zombie flick. Much like Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, the zombie approach of "Grapes" comes from environmental issues with pesticides. The local affected area home to a winery (this is where we get the grapes) which is using infected grapes and turning everyone into crazy rotting zombies. Of course not much other than that is explained in the movie but the main point I think they were trying to get across was Pesticides + Vegitation =  zombies, blood, and severed heads. Which of course also makes for one hell of a cool movie!

One thing that stood out as I was watching was the surroundings. The filming locations were excellent creepy goodness. Perfect for zombies. Aside from atmosphere this movie has quite a few nasty gore soaked scenes that are sure to remain memorable.

I rate this movie 4 out of 5 Bloody Severed Heads Delicious Grapes.

This movie is a must see for zombie lovers! Check this one out!
